I know...I am kind of a lame blogger skipping back in time like this...but I have this huge desire to FINISH something TONIGHT and since I have posted day one and day two of our San Fran trip, but never got around to posting day three (or burning all the photos for Amy), I thought it would be a great task to complete! Unfortunately, there aren't many tasks on my list right now that can be completed in one short evening! So, here ya have it...day THREE of our wonderful trip to San Fran! Amy and I can't wait to put together digital photo books of our trip to keep FOREVER!!
Day three was our road trip day! We got up bright and early and picked up our rental car at 7:30 a.m.! Then we hit the road towards wine country...boys in the front...girls in the back...and a very helpful Garmin Nuvi from Lisa to help lead our way!
It wasn't very long before we arrived in beautiful Sonoma County!
We were making good time so we decided to go to Sonoma first and stopped at the cutest little breakfast place with a beautiful back patio area!
Then we headed to Napa for our 11:00 a.m. reservation at Del Dotto Winery.
There were some beautiful sites along the way!
This is the entrance to Del Dotto. This winery was recommended to us by Lisa and we were very impressed!

Scott and I waiting for the tour to start!
Del Dotto is a cave winery. All the wine is stored in these underground caves. It was very romantic!
Our tour guide explained how the different barrels (made from different woods) cause the wine to have different flavors! He told us to smell the empty barrels, and this is Amy smelling the barrel! :)
Scott in front of a cut open barrel that shows you what the inside of the barrels look like.
This is how Amy took our group pictures...with her little tripod on top of a barrel! She cracks me up!
And this is our group picture! Cheers!
Del Dotto is a red wine only winery, and neither Amy or I really drink red wine, so this is kind of how we were feeling at the end of or tour!
Adorable Amy!
Group photo!
After our tour we headed over to another Lisa recommendation: Taylor's Automatic Refresher! It was wonderful and we highly recommend it as well! They have excellent burgers, shakes and sweet potato and garlic fries!
After Taylor's we left the Napa area and headed towards the coast. However, I really wanted to see an actual vineyard, so I made Scott stop on the side of the road so I could take a peek at one. Everyone else stayed in the car...what a bunch of bums! :) The light was way too bright, but it was fun to look at the grapes!
Then we made our way through some more beautiful scenic areas over to Pacific Coast Highway (aka California Highway 1!) Just like the rest of our trip it was VERY foggy when we got there!
Us at the beach!
We came across a fabulous outlook.
The boys exploring prohibited areas!
Amy checking out the "view"...we should have been seeing the ocean and amazing cliffs! Such a bummer. I guess we will have to go back! :)
The fog was so thick you couldn't even see the end of the lookout point.
Amy and I in a shelter from WW2. Soliders hid here and watched out over the ocean for incoming ships.
There were some beautiful mossy trees!
We made our way to Muir Woods...home of the HUGE redwoods!
It is amazing how large they are!
Breathtakingly beautiful!
This picture is really dark, but it shows you how wide the trees really are...the tree is behind us!
Walking through the woods!

Scott and I in a tree!
A banana slug!
After Muir Woods we made our way to the Golden Gate Bridge. After seeing fog all day I will never forget the moment we saw the beautiful bridge peeking through the thick, thick fog. We hadn't been able to really see the bridge yet on our trip and this was our last chance. I was on the phone with my Mom checking on the girls when I saw it and immediately became so excited and told her I had to go because we could finally see the bridge!! We quickly turned off and found this amazing lookout! Check out the fog rolling across the bay. It was just amazing. There was literally a wall of fog.
Hiking up the hill...it was sooo windy!
The tip of the bridge with the thick fog rolling across the bay...and it was literally rolling. I wish I had video footage!
YEAH!!! The bridge! We made it!
It is so amazingly beautiful! I was in awe!
Even though the bridge was literally right in front of us the fog would roll in so thick (instantly) that we wouldn't be able to see it anymore. It should be visibly in this picture below!
And then the fog would roll out and we could see the bridge again...just barely!
Can you believe the rest of the bridge is literally hidden!
I could look at the bridge all day!
More thick fog...every few seconds the bridge would just literally disappear where you couldn't see anything, but here you could see a little bit!
Check out the fog rolling over the hills! Amazing!
I took this out my window.
Once we got in the think fog this was all we could see...not exactly what I thought our drive over the Golden Gate Bridge would be like, but neat none the less!
Isn't it adorable!
Well, there you have it folks, our fabulous trip to San Fran! It was one of the best trips we have ever taken and ranks right up there with going to Italy. We have so many wonderful memories and will remember it forever! I am so glad we crammed so much in. We went there to see the city and surrounding areas, and I really feel like we got to see it...in only three jam packed days! I can't wait to go back when the girls are old enough to enjoy it...it will be awhile, but someday!
Until next time,
XOXO
